Permit Flats Fishing
Capt. Mo specializes in light tackle sight fishing the flats of Miami’s Biscayne Bay for some of the world’s most challenging fish. This requires knowledge, experience and patience as these fish allow for a very small margin of error.
Call me today and see what sight fishing the flats is all about!
Flats fishing takes place is water from 12 inches to 6 feet in depth and is a very exciting type of fishing. Fishing the flats requires good knowledge of the area and the regular movement of fish in order for it to be a productive endeavor.
Such a following has the sport of flats fishing endeared that specialized boats and equipment have been developed over the decades in order to make flats fishing more productive and easier on the anglers and guides. Some examples of these specialized equipment are the flats boat invented by Bob Hewes, the poling tower, trolling motor and the push pole.
When the need arises to fish the deeper flats for gamefish such as permit or tarpon, an electric trolling motor is an easier method to employ. However, when the water becomes too shallow for an electric motor or the need arises for the stealthiest approach possible, a push pole is still the preferred method to propel the flats skiff around the flats. These push poles are now made of graphite composites and can cost upwards of $1,200 dollars with their typical length being 21’.
Fishing the flats, regardless whether in 12 inches or 6 feet, is an exciting and very visual experience which many anglers have discovered and chosen not to return from. Give me a call today and experience fishing like never before!
